The History
I first saw a short movie about the Overview Effect about seven years ago. The phenomenon fascinated me. Ever since, I followed projects and studies around recreating the Overview Effect without sending people to space.
The seed of the Insight Overview Experience was planted few years later during my first holotropic breathwork session. At one point during the session, I was unexpectedly floating above Earth and experienced the Overview Effect myself: The sudden, overwhelming understanding of the interconnectedness and preciousness of life on Earth. That moment was not just personal; it was foundational. It set me on a path to explore how this experience could be shared and amplified for others.
The seed of Insight Overview
In 2021, I had the opportunity to bring this vision to life for the first time. I developed the first version of this experience as part of a sustainability training program at Mannheim Business School. Together with Julie Strobach and Dr. Simon Ludwig I guided around 100 participants through the experience that combined breathwork, storytelling and sound design. The feedback was profound: participants emerged with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper commitment to sustainability.
From there, the journey continued with further sessions at the Academy of Transformation Design, The Good Change training program, and conferences for Project Together.
Each iteration refined the format.
Insight Overview Today
This year, I’ve joined forces with Sina Weneit to take Insight Overview to the next level. Together, we’re working on hosting public events and bringing the format to conferences, art spaces and any context where a transformative perspective on Earth, sustainability, and humanity is needed. We are also developing a digital version of the experience.
Our vision extends beyond the Insight Overview format. Under the roof of Insight Being, we aim to explore and create formats and experiences that foster fundamental insights on being alive on Earth—moments that change how we perceive ourselves, our world, and our role in it.
